WHO ARE WE

We are Selam and Andiy. After Natnael passed away we wanted to continue his task of teaching children about their country of origin and helping families to find their stories.
This blog is to teach the children that go abroad something about their birth country and to give to the adoptive parents a way to search the biological family of their child.

THE GENEROUS TREE

Once upon a  time there was a child that loved a tree, and a tree that loved a child
the child was climbing the tree playing in the branches, eating its fruits and dreaming and playing together
the time went and the child came and was kind of sad and the tree told him:
come, climb me, play in my branches and be happy...
but the child was grown up and told to the tree:
you know, tree, what i need is money, not a playground...
then the tree told him:
why don't you take my fruits, you can sell them in the market and get some money
the child did so, and he was happy
there was a young man loving a tree and a tree loving a young man
until once the young man came and was sad
and the tree told him:

until once the young man. came and was sad
   and the tree told him:
come, climb me, play between my branches and be happy"
but the young man told him:
I love you so much, but is not more my time to play, I would like to get married and to have my own children... but I have no house to stay in
and the tree told him:
well, you could cut my branches and build a house, so you can get married and have your children and be happy
the young man looked at the tree, embrace it and used his branches to build a house
the children grew up, his wife passed away in a young age... and he become alone
and went to the tree in a so sad way
come, climb to me and be happy!
you see, my dear tree, the only I want is to run away, there is nothing left that makes me happy here...
and the tree told him:
well you could cut me wood and make with it a boat that can carry you far away, so you can forget your sadness and be happy
the man looked at the tree and embrace it, he cut the wood and made a boat, and went far
until one day he came back
he was so old and went to the tree (just a small peace of wood...
he was very old and tired
and the tree told him
I would love to tell you to climb me, but I have no wood any more...
and the old man told him: I have no strength to do so
I would love to tell you to play in my branches and eat my fruits, but none of them is left
you see-told the old man- I have no teeth any more, I couldn't even eat any of your fruits...
the only I need right now is a peaceful place to seat and rest
then the tree told him to sit on the small peace of wood that was left, and the old man did so, could take a rest and be happy
and there was an old man that loved a tree and a tree that loved him as well...

no matter how much you can give us now, we will keep on loving you.
