As any other language, Amharic is a language in evolution,
continuously adapting to the new necessities.
Between the young people there are many things that have no
proper words in Amharic to be defined and often they use, when the case is a
verb, the English word to explain the thing and after the verb “to make/do”
that in Amharic is madreg or in a popular way mareg. In this way come different
expressions like “google mareg”, “search mareg” and many others.
Is very true that the most of educated people use daily
English words in their language as “sorry”, “by the way”, “seriously” and many
others that become part of their vocabulary.
Sometimes I ask myself if it was not better to speak a pure
Amháric.
